Get your non-profit Google Adwords account approved

If you’ve applied and been accepted for a Google Grant, the next step is setting up your Google Adwords account. You’ll need to submit it to Google for approval before you can begin using it. The process can be a bit difficult to navigate, so here’s a handy checklist of all the guidelines you’ll need to meet.

Account Settings Checklist:

  • Set your currency to USD (United States Dollars) currency.
  • Set your campaign daily budgets to no more than a combined $330.
  • Create only keyword targeted campaigns (no placement targeting).
  • Set geo-targeting as specifically as possible.
  • Opt out of the search and content networks.
  • Set all keyword bids to $1 USD or less.
  • Do not submitted credit card information.

Account Structure Checklist:

  • Do not lump all keywords into one ad group.
  • Use 2-3 ads for every ad group.
  • Use only one keyword theme within each ad group.
  • Use each keyword only once.
  • Separate keywords into different ad groups according to theme.

Ad Text Checklist:

  • Include a call to action within the ad text (e.g. 'Donate Now', etc.).
  • Make sure there is a strong correlation between ads and the keywords that trigger them.

Keywords Checklist:

  • Use negative keywords to prevent ads from showing on searches that do not pertain to the services offered.
  • Do not included any keywords that are too general when used alone.
